The trial of a case filed against former minister Dharmarao Baba Atram for alleged involvement in hunting two Chinkaras and some rabbits in 2008 was to commence at the court in Saswad. The forest officer who investigated the case was to depose on Tuesday but the trial was adjourned till July 20 as the defence lawyers, Vijay Nahar and Debjyoti Talukdar were absent.

Atram was present for the hearing. Other seven accused - Suresh Andarao Biramane, his brother Mahesh, Ravindra Tukaram Wadkar, Ravi Vasant Sorap, Ankush Tukaram Sanas, Prabhakar Shriram Wagh and Sayyad Ali Hussein - were also present in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) AS Pandangale in Saswad court from noon.

Atram and others have been slapped under the relevant sections of The Forest Act, 1927 and The Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act.
Around 1.45 pm, additional public prosecutor Ramesh Ghorpade and forest officer Hanumant Dhumal, who had investigated the case, entered the courtroom.

Defence lawyer Gajendra Bhoyar informed the court that Talukdar who represented some of the accused was out of station. Other defence lawyer Chandrashekhar Jadhav informed the court that Atram’s lawyer Vijay Nahar was appointed recently and needed time to prepare.
