PUNE
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan assured strict action against those responsible for the Shindewadi drowning incident.
Vishakha Sachin Wadekar (31) and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Sanskruti Wadekar died after the car they were travelling in was swept away in the pre-monsoon showers near Katraj Tunnel on June 6.
Terming the incident unfortunate, Chavan said, “The home ministry has set up an inquiry committee which will submit its report and then
action will be initiated.”
“There has been many occasions when disaster management has proved to be disastrous. The state has appointed an international company to look into disaster management in Mumbai,” he added.
He was speaking after welcoming the students on their first day of school Loknete Yashwantrao Chavan Vidyaniketan School no. 6 at Yerawada on Monday.
“For Pune, we are working out possibilities with National Disastrous Response Force (NDRF) as previously it has carried out various disaster management projects,” said Chavan.
When asked about the scraping of education boards, Chavan said, “We are checking out the advantages of such boards and implementation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 (RTE). We will soon take a decision on whether to scrap such boards or to continue with them.”
