Thirteen first year junior college girl students from DY Patil Arts Science and Commerce College at Sant Tukaramnagar, Pimpri, were hospitalised after they reportedly came in contact with a chemical spray. The incident took place at around 12:30pm on Saturday while a lecture was going on.
After the girls complained of uneasiness, coughing and watering eyes, the college authorities admitted to the DY Patil Hospital. Two students who complained of vomiting were admitted to the intensive care unit.
Dr (Brigadier) Amarjit Singh, dean of the hospital said, “All the student were administered IV drip as precautionary measure. All are safe. All the students have recovered now. They have also eaten food and we are going to send them home soon.” Two girl student who fallen ill severely after vomiting several times were taken to the ICU. Hospital administration said condition of these students also has improved.
When asked about the substance they came in contact with, Singh said that the hospital was informed that a girl was carrying a spray as a protection from eve-teasing. One of the students said, “The girl who carried the spray with her bag was not there at the time when spray was accidentally released in the air.”
