Caste certificate not a hurdle for junior college admissions

As the admission form sale for standard XIth students starts from today (June 12), Centralised Admission Process (CAP) has kept the major worry of the students at bay. No student will be denied admission even if s/he cannot provide caste certificate at the time of the admission to the junior college.

However, it is mandatory for the students to produce the certificate within six months from the admission, otherwise college can take action against them.

In a meeting held with the junior college principals, CAP has clarified that the students will be given six months time to produce the caste certificate.

CAP director and deputy director of education Suman Shinde said, “A couple of years ago, state government had notified that it was compulsory for the students to produce the caste certificate for various types of reservations during the admission.”

 “The students however, have to produce their original school leaving certificate where their caste is mentioned”, she said.
“The decision was taken after students complained that taking out a caste certificate is a lengthy process and thus they need more time to obtain one. Considering this we have extended the date to produce the certificate”, Shinde added.

Sir Parshurambhau college principal Dilip Sheth said, “We give six months time to the students to produce caste certificates so that the students don’t lose a year.”

The form sale will continue till June 14 at all colleges
