The Bibvewadi police have booked three persons for duping a 28-year-old youth to the tune of Rs25.89 lakh by offering a job in a five star hotel abroad. The fraud took place sometime between July 9 and September 3 this year.
The victim Swapnil Ramesh Thakar (28), a resident of Ramyanagar, Bibvewadi, is an ex-manager of a popular pizza shop. He lodged a police complaint as soon as he realised that he was cheated.
Police inspector (crime) MM Khandagale of Bibvewadi police station said that Thakar got the mail on July 9 and sent his resume on the email id given. Later he got a call from one Wilson Brown who explained him the procedure and gave a bank account number. Thakar was asked to deposit an amount in the account. Thakar kept depositing money as and when they told him to.
“The accused used to call him regularly to promise him job to avoid suspicion. Meanwhile Thakar researched to know more about the hotel and came to know that the three callers had no connection with it. He then approached us,” Khandagale explained. “We have blocked Thakar’s bank account. We are waiting to get the details of his account,” he added.
