A group of 10 people allegedly attacked the husband of Sarika Kotwal,  Shiv Sena candidate contesting bypolls at the Bhosari ward of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Saturday night.

Sarika Kotwal’s husband Ashok Kotwal alone at the parking space of their residence in Bhosari when the incident took place around 8 pm on Saturday.

The police suspect that the attack was a fallout of  political rivalry. However, they were quick to add that as of now they have no leads to establish the identities of the people involved in the attack.
The seat of the Bhosari Gaothan electoral ward number 35 had become vacant as the NCP’s Seema Fuge was disqualified by the election commission for submitting fake caste certificate.

Bhosari Gaothan has been declared as a sensitive electoral ward by the state election commission. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has fielded Dr.Shraddha Lande as the party’s official candidate in the bypoll.

Shiv Sena leader Gajanan Kirtikar alleged that NCP is trying to bully other candidates to gain votes. Kirtikar demanded that police protection be provided to his party’s candidate and people campaigning for her.

Sources from Bhosari police station claimed that the assailants were armed with sticks. Police said Ashok was hit on the head with sticks.

“ Ashok was rushed to a nearby hospital. Later, he was shifted to another hospital in Thergaon. He was unconscious and his condition is critical,” a police officer said.
