Arogya Sena docs provide medical aid

Volunteer doctors of Arogya Sena are providing medical aid to the flood-affected victims in medical camps in Uttarakhand. They cited the inability to reach out to patients in remote areas as roads of 110 villages have been washed away.

The doctors have set up camp in Ganeshpur village that is on the way to Gangotri. Arogya Sena founder and national chief Dr Abhijit Vaidya said, “Although thousands of stranded tourists have been rescued by the armed forces, the situation has remained bad for the locals. With incessant downpour many residents are complaining of diarrhoea, cold, fever and vomiting.”

“We are carrying medicines of 30 categories but are finding it difficult to reach villages are there is no road. We have to climb hills along with the whole stock of medicines. Local volunteers are helping us in carrying medicines,” Dr Vaidya said, adding that there is an urgent need to remove bodies from rivers and other water bodies as these decomposed bodies will start contaminating the waters.

Rally to raise funds for flood-hit victims

A team of International Human Rights Protection Bureau (India) in Pune has organised a rally to raise funds for the Uttarakhand flood-affected victims on Sunday. The rally will start from Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple at 2.30 pm and will cover areas including Samadhan Chowk, Lakshmi Road, Appa Balwant Chowk, Surya Hospital and Pune railway station. After the rally, a team of the bureau will head for Uttarakhand to provide help to the victims who are in rescue camps.

NGO rushes clothes to Uttarakhand villages

In order to help rehabilitation of residents of villages in Uttarakhand, members of Pune-based NGO Maitri left for Uttarakhand carrying 486 bundles of clothes. The volunteers of the NGO had collected the clothes from Puneites over the last three days.

According to members of the NGO who have assessed the situation in Uttarakhand, the residents of villages hit by the flood need basic necessities and hence the clothes will be distributed among them.

Agroup of Maitri reached there to help the residents. The first group of the NGO went to Uttarakhand on June 22 to assess the situation at ground zero.

Vaishali Kanaskar, a volunteer of Maitri told dna, “The assessment team found that the residents of the affected villages in Uttarakhand have lost everything and need help in resettlement.”
Maitri has joined hands with local NGO Arpan and the volunteers are working in Dharchula region. The first requirement sent by the assessment team was for plastic sheets and clothes.

“Based on the requirement, we appealed to Puneites to donate clothes for the flood-affected people in Uttarakhand and many people responded to our appeal. We collected 486 sacks of clothes in good condition. On Saturday they were dispatched to Uttarakhand,” Vaishali said.

The NGO has appealed to citizens to donate more material and funds to help resettle the residents of Uttarakhand.
