Military police summoned, situation under control
A Ganesh mandal worker and an army jawan had an argument after the former objected to the latter’s allegedly urinating near a Ganesh pandal on Shivarkar Road at 12.30 pm on Friday.
According to the Wanawadi police, the jawan called up some of his colleagues who too arrived on the scene inquiring about the incident.
Wanawadi senior police inspector Bajirao Mohite said the army jawan, who was in an inebriated condition, was found urinating by a mandal worker who objected to his behaviour. “There was a scuffle between them after which the jawan called up his colleagues. The mandal workers too gathered at the scene. The matter has been sorted out as we called the general military police to control the situation,” he said.
Senior police officers rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation as the clash was initially reported to be a fight between civilians and the military. Mohite maintained that the police could not identify the unit to which the jawans belonged and did not register a case.
Meanwhile, area residents have requested the police to increase night patrols and keep an eye on drunkards and hooligans to keep peace during the festive season.
