Shiv Sena on Tuesday demanded the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to initiate action against Reliance Infrastructure company and reconsider the contract for six-laning of the stretch on Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway at Katraj tunnel.

Party spokesperson Neelam Gorhe was speaking to media persons after visiting the spot at Shindewadi where a car was swept away during flash floods on June 6, killing a woman and her one-and a-half-year old daughter. She also visited the spot at Dattawadi where a wall collapse had claimed lives of three women two days ago.

Demanding action against the contractor, Gorhe said that criminal cases should be filed under section 302 of CrPC against those responsible for the mishap.

When contacted over phone, Reliance Infra chief project manager Venkat Kaza said that the company cannot be blamed for the Shindewadi incident and the district administration will have to take a decision on it. “The company has been working at the site for a long time and it was for the first time that such a calamity has taken place,” he said.

Kaza said that the root cause for this incident has to be taken into account and it has to be ascertained who is responsible for the development on the hilltop areas. “The administration has already taken action against people involved in this regard and I have nothing more to say,” he added.
