A month later, no change in parking arrangements at Pune station

Against the backdrop of series of blasts on Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road in August, the superintendent of Government Railway Police (GRP) had announced that the two-wheeler parking facility on the premises of Pune railway station will be removed as it posed a security threat.

However, even after a month, two-wheelers continue to be parked in front of GRP police station and still no action is being taken.

The JM Road blasts took place on August 1 in which culprits had used the parking facility along the road to plant bicycles laden with bombs. After the blasts, security at various sensitive places including the Pune railway station was beefed up. Few days after the blast, GRP SP Pratapsinh Patankar had reviewed the security measures at the Pune railway station. After the review, Patankar had said that the two-wheeler parking facility can be a security threat and it will be removed as precautionary measure.

However, the security at the Pune railway station has become lax and two-wheeler riders are parking their vehicles outside the GRP police station. 

Senior inspector Mahendra Rokade of Pune GRP told DNA, “We held a meeting with the railway administration and we have asked them to do away with the parking facility at the Pune railway station. The railway administration will shift the parking area to a new place.’’
