PMC identifies 29,000 spots holding stagnant water
Considering the dangers of the spread of dengue and malaria due to mosquito breeding in stagnant water, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued 600 notices to various establishments, after finding stagnant water on their premises. The city has already witnessed its first death due to dengue haemorrhagic fever on Thursday. The health department of PMC has carried out a survey throughout the city in which they have identified 29,000 spots where mosquito breeding is likely to take place. The health department staff surveying these areas regularly found that there are several spots where water is getting stored and mosquito breeding is taking place.
Vaishali Jadhav, head of the insect control department of PMC said, “We have issued 600 notices to various establishments after identifying the mosquito breeding spots. Most of these establishments are under construction sites, tyre repairing workshops and scrap dealers shops. Our staff visited the spots and cleaned the areas before serving notices to the owners of these establishments to make sure that breeding does not take place again.”
“Our staff will be constantly surveying these areas and other spots to check mosquito breeding. We will take action against the owners of those places where mosquito breeding will take place because of unclean premises, and collect fine through PMC’s Nuisance Detection Squad.”
PMC administration is also working on imposing fine on residential societies if their premises are found unhygienic and possible place for mosquito breeding. “The bylaws have been prepared to take necessary action. But it is yet to get the sanction from the PMC general body,” Jadhav said.
