Qianhaiwan Logistics Center recognized for its cross docking transportation services, faster U-turn and China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) solutions for chemical logistics in Shenzhen

SHENZHEN, Dec. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- CEVA Logistics, one of the world's leading supply chain companies, has been presented with the China Warehousing Service and Management Innovation award at the China Association of Warehousing and Storage (CAWS) Annual Meeting 2011 in Shenzhen. The award, presented last month, recognizes CEVA's commitment to developing innovative chemical logistics solutions that anticipate the needs of its customer, Huntsman, a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals.

CEVA's Qianhaiwan Logistics Center located in Shekou has launched several initiatives which aim to streamline operational process and to provide a secure chemical supply chain for Huntsman. The initiatives were delivered in partnership with the customer, Shekou Customs, port related governmental departments and Shenzhen Qianhaiwan Logistics Park.

"Transportation and logistics for chemical goods is not a simple process. We are delighted with CEVA's efforts in understanding every specific requirement before optimizing the supply chain process, thus avoiding potential problems before they arise," said Rohbin Liu, Operations Manager of Huntsman's Asia Distribution Center.

Connie Tang, Vice President of CEVA in South China, added: "The award highlights CEVA's continuous commitment to the highest standard of chemical logistics facilities in South China. This success is the result of many collaborative efforts from various parties who CEVA worked with to introduce several initiatives to increase Huntsman's operational efficiencies and ensure a smoother supply chain process. This is in line with Shekou Customs and port related governmental departments' ambition to turn the Qianhaiwan facility into an integrated Logistics Center, providing high value supply chain services."

CEVA's achievements were acknowledged in three areas. Firstly, CEVA launched a comprehensive cross docking transportation solution for Category 9 dangerous goods, and became the first logistics service provider to offer dangerous goods transportation services in the Shekou Bonded Logistics Park. CEVA spent over three months conducting an in-depth analysis of customer's manufacturing process and established a comprehensive transportation, warehousing manual detailing loading and transportation processes as well as proper handling of emergencies such as chemical release due to accidents.

Secondly, with Shekou Custom's approval, CEVA's Qianhaiwan warehouse has successfully integrated the functions of bonded warehouse and export processing preferential policies. This means goods manufactured by Chinese vendors are free to enter the bonded warehouse. This approach helps to eliminate the traditional Hong Kong U-Turn process, saving an average of two or three days delivery lead time in South China. As a result, the average transportation costs for each container were reduced by approximately 30-50%.

Finally, the award also recognized the achievements of the implementation of China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) from a remote location. This initiative which received full support from the China Inspection and Quarantine Bureau at Shekou, allows CIQ to be processed at CEVA's Qianhaiwan warehouse, avoiding the traditional long waiting time for inspection at various origins.
