Set aside 30% from your income before spending
Save a fair amount for a rainy day and an emergency, but not miss out on the luxuries I enjoy
VJ, actress and singer Sophie Choudry shares some money tips
Your first pay check
It came from VJing on a TV show in London, while I was studying. Like any good Indian girl I shared the moment with my mum. She promptly drove me to Gucci and I bought a pair of shoes and a handbag, both of which I still have for memories sake.
Most expensive purchase till date
My home in Mumbai. There is nothing more special than buying your first home.
Who manages your money and where do you invest
I pretty much manage my own money with advice from my accountant. I tried stocks and mutual funds once and lost some money. So now I just prefer FDs.
Your advice about money
Someone told me you should always set aside around 30% from every pay check and spend the rest. Save a fair amount for a rainy day and an emergency, but not miss out on the luxuries I enjoy.
Your money mistake
Going against my gut instinct and investing in something just because my bank manager at that time kept convincing me. The market crashed shortly after. Listen to advice, but follow your gut.
