The number of claims for breast cancer made by women in the age group of 35-45 years has doubled between FY 2015-16 and FY 2017-18, said a study by SBI General Insurance. The study was conducted to spread awareness on the importance of health insurance on the occasion of 'International Day of Action for Women's Health' which is observed globally on May 28.

The increase in claims made by this age group for breast cancer indicates that women need to start taking care of their health from a younger age with the help of necessary precautions. The study also revealed that the age group of 45 to 55 years saw the highest number of claims, with a significant increase in claims between FY 2015-16 and FY 2017-18.

According to the study approximately 85% of claims for Neoplasm/breast cancer were made from metro cities over the past three years. This may be due to higher awareness of health insurance in metros and also the fact that hospital setups are well-established in these areas.
