The employee opens a new account whenever he changes the job and withdraws the money from the old PF account
Most of the times, an employee has two or more Provident Fund (PF) account. The employee opens a new account whenever he changes the job and withdraws the money from the old PF account. It is advisable to give your Universal Account Number (UAN) whenever you change a job which will enable you to see your passbook statement or PF transactions.
You can transfer PF amount from one account to another. The two PF accounts can also be merged by giving an application to Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
There are two options to merge the old account with the new account.
Option 1:
First, update the information with the EPFO by sending an email at uanepf@epfindia.gov.in and inform your existing company. The EPFO will examine your UAN numbers and after the verification, your old UAN number will be blocked from EPFO and after which you can transfer your PF amount in the old account to the new account.
option 2:
It is necessary that your PF account and Universal Account Number (UAN) number should be linked to each other to avail this option. Then you to click on the tab 'Employee One EPF account' on the website and enter your registered mobile number and UAN number. Enter an OTP number that you receive on your mobile. After that proceed to 'click on a new page' option available on the desktop which will show all the details of your old Employee Provident Fund (EPF).
To avail this option, you need to transfer the old PF account deposits to the new PF account. Once the request is received for transfer, the EPFO will cross-check and verify your transfer claim. By the meantime, you can start the process of UAN linking for both accounts. Once the deposit is transferred, the EPFO will block your previous UAN number.
