The BMC Elections will be held in Mumbai on Februrary 21st 2017. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also known as Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is the civic body that governs the capital city of Mumbai in Maharashtra and is India's richest municipal organization with a budget over Rs 37,000 crores, this is more than the budget of some small states in India.
The highest turnout in 2012's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections was in S Ward, going as high as 49.5% and the lowest turnout was in A Ward at 34.2%. In a city with a population of over 2.2 crores the voter turnout was as low as 45%.
The BMC is in charge of everything from clean water, potholes to getting rid of rats in your vicinity. BMC elections are the ones that affect us the most, but they always see the lowest turnouts, 45% to be precise!
