Following reports that 26/11 convict Mohammed Ajmal Kasab is down with dengue, pest control officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) visited Arthur Road Jail on Monday and carried out fumigation around the high-security cell where he is lodged.

"We have been regularly carrying out the anti-mosquito drive at the jail. But, we have not found any mosquito breeding spots today or even in the recent past near Kasab’s cell or on the premises," said Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner. She added that due to security reasons, the entry of pest control officials was restricted where Kasab has been kept.

"We were not allowed inside the cell, but we carried out fumigation around the area to ensure that there is no mosquito breeding," said a pest control official, requesting anonymity. "We have also instructed the jail authorities about the preventive measures to be taken on the premises."

The pest control official added that they have not found any mosquito breeding spots in the adjoining slums or building constructions next to the jail in the last one month.
