Following the blast outside Delhi High Court on Wednesday, the Mumbai police have taken special security measures to ensure a smooth Ganpati immersion day.

The vehicle will be fitted with a GPS device that would be monitored from the control room.
Sources in the police commissioner officer have told DNA that after the blast in Delhi, the police discussed security plans for a smooth Ganpati immersion in the city.
A meeting was also conducted by the senior police officers in this regard.
“There will be a central escort for Lalbaugcha Raja and we are planning to fit video cameras in a vehicle that will move ahead of Lalbaugcha Raja. The vehicle will also be fitted with a GPS device. While the video camera will record the movement of the people near the Ganesha idol, the location through GPS will be monitored from the main police control room,” said Arup Patnaik, Mumbai police commissioner.
He added that there was a possibility that these systems would be used with other major mandals in the city on the immersion day.
“The cost in putting this system will not be much, but it will surely be very effective, especially when there is immense crowd and police movement is also restricted,” the police commissioner said.
The police will also monitor the entire Lalbaugcha Raja route towards the immersion point at Girgaum Chowpatty through CCTV cameras that would be installed at strategic locations.
“There will be spotters keeping an eye on the movements of those near the Ganesh idol. The spotters will be none other than men from Special Branch of the city police. They would be surrounding the procession in plain clothes,” said Patnaik.
