The Mira road police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping and raping a teenaged girl at a lodge. The girl's mother complained to the police, leading to his arrest.

According to police, on June 28, Arshad Afroze Qureshi, a resident of Nagpada, abducted the girl from Mira Road and took her to a lodge near the highway in Kashimira where he allegedly raped her for two days.

"The girl's mother approached us and told us that her daughter had been kidnapped. We soon tracked down the youth and arrested him under section 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal code and under relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act," said a Mira road police officer.

"We produced him in Thane court, where he was remanded to police custody up to seven days. We are investigating further," said Dhanaji Kshirsagar, senior inspector, Mira road police station.
