Youth depressed over dead lover kills self after two failed attempts

A 24-year-old youth, who had failed in two previous attempts to commit suicide, shot himself at his residence in Kurla on Tuesday morning.

Manoj Jaiswal, the deceased, worked with a mobile phone company and stayed with his two brothers and father at Gurudutt Nagar, Kurla.

Investigations have revealed that he was in love with his cousin sister who stayed at his native place in Pratapgad, Uttar Pradesh. His family members and relatives objected to their relationship.

The girl reportedly died of some ailment last month. Jaiswal had been under depression. He thought her death was brought up by the rejection of their relationship by family and society.

Jaiswal’s younger brother Pramod, 17, came back home after attending college and saw Jaiswal lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Inspector Dilip Mangaonkar of the VB Nagar police station said, “We found a four-page suicide note. He said he wanted to construct a Radhe Shyam temple in his village but was unable to because of depression. He had attempted to commit suicide in December last year and in March this year by consuming sleeping pills but survived.”

He added: “He had returned back from his native place four days ago and was alone at home when he killed himself.”

The police have also recovered the country-made pistol that Jaiswal used. In the note, he mentioned he got the weapon when he went to his native place to attend a wedding. He found the weapon and two cartridges in the dickey of a motorbike and kept it with himself for the past two years.

“We had no idea that he was under depression and that he would kill himself. I had gone to college and my father was at our shop in Vitthalwadi when this incident took place,” said Pramod.
