Young man beaten to death by locals

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man was beaten up to death in a Nalasopara neighbourhood by residents who suspected he was a thief.

The Valiv police said the man, Suresh Yadav, was apparently walking through the area on his way home when some people asked him what he was doing there and assaulted him with sticks and stones.

The police learned about the incident on Monday morning. Five persons have been arrested on charges of murder and rioting. They are looking out for three others who were involved in the attack, said Narayan Patil, senior police inspector.

The victim lived in the Gavrai pada area of Nalasopara. According to the police, Yadav was on his way back after visiting some relatives in Mumbai.
