MUMBAI
Civic chief Jarhad says in response to the welcome speech by SC members.
Abasaheb Jarhad, who attended the standing committee meeting for the first time as the full-time commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), has said that he will not discriminate the between ruling party and opposition corporators while clearing civic works. “I will try my best to fast-track civic works. You will see works getting cleared at double the speed. At the same time, I would like to inform all of you that there will be no discrimination between ruling and opposition party corporators when it comes to carrying out civic works,” Jarhad said in response to the welcome speech by SC members.
Jarhad, who attends office on Sundays as well as public holidays to clear pending work, said, “We have formulated a system to clear files of corporators, and directed department heads to follow the format strictly. Whether the projects are large, medium-sized or small, they will be taken up as per requirements.” He added, “You do not need huge amounts of money to execute certain projects; with innovation some projects can be implemented with bare minimum resources.”
Jarhad’s statement assumes significance in the backdrop of opposition parties, Shiv Sena and Congress, accusing the ruling NCP of neglecting their wards and giving preference to the wards of NCP corporators for developmental works.
