A 24-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by an unknown person in broad daylight in Kurla on Tuesday. The assailant, who is currently absconding, was unknown to the woman and the police are tying to ascertain the reason behind the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Karisma Mane — a resident of Suman Nagar in Chembur. According to the Nehru Nagar police, the incident took place at around 10:30am at Shiv Shakti Nagar near Eastern Express Highway. Around 10am, Mane had left her home and was on her way to office at Bhumi Plaza.

"While she was walking, an unknown person stabbed him from behind. The woman was stabbed only once. We contacted the family of the victim and they do not suspect anyone behind the incident," said a police officer.

Talking about the incident, Shahaji Umap, deputy commissioner of police (Zone VI), said: "A case of murder has been registered against an unknown person. While the accused is yet to be identified we are checking CCTV footage so that we can get come clue about the assailant."
