The trunk, which was covered with black polythene bags, was spotted by a passerby, who informed the police as he suspected it was a bomb. When a police team reached the spot and opened the trunk, they discovered a body, but no clues for identification. The woman is of agri-koli origin, said the police.

"She might have been killed for property or a relative may have wanted to get rid of her. We are investigating the case from all angles, but the primary motive is to identify the victim," said a senior official from Mira road police station.

"We have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. We have also been checking missing complaints registered at various police stations," said Suresh Khedekar.
