A 35-year-old woman was allegedly duped of a flat and Rs 4 lakh on the pretext of booking the property by a broker in Ahmedabad. A complaint was lodged with the Ghatlodia police on Friday.

The victim, Hiral Patel, is a resident of New Suryanagar society. According to the complaint, she met one Mihir Bharwad in 2018. The accused owned a shop near her office in CG Road. The accused is a resident of Vadaj. In July last year, Bharwad approached Patel saying that the government had launched a scheme about buying affordable flats.

He assured her saying that he would make arrangements if she paid him Rs 4 lakh. For the first three months, Bharwad used to tell her that construction work delayed the process. However, Patel asked Bharwad to return the money when there was no hope after eight months. Bharwad also gave her an invalid cheque of Rs 4 lakh, police said.
