Woman dies of 'wrong' blood transfusion

A 27 year-old woman died after a blood transfusion at a Nalasopara hospital last week.
The woman’s family alleged that the hospital staff were at fault and used the wrong blood group for the transfusion.

Seema Yadav, the victim, had gone to the hospital to deliver a baby. Following a normal delivery and the birth of a healthy baby, family members says the victim was feeling fine.The victim’s husband Rama Shankar Yadav said, “After the birth of the child she (Seema) was fine and she also breast fed him. But at night, the doctor said they would transfuse blood in to her body. At first we said no since she was doing well but he insisted and began the procedure.”

According to the husband, minutes after the transfusion, the victim began to feel sick. She was also moved to Alliance hospital in Nalasopara but she succumbed.

Assistant inspector of Nalasopara police station said, “A case of accidental death has been registered and we have conducted the post mortem. We are awaiting the report. We have also seized the bottle used in the transfusion.” According to Yadav, the hospital staff changed the stickers on the bottle to mislead the cops.
