APMC police arrested two accused within 24 hours of allegedly stealing cash from Dilruba bar in Turbhe. The police also recovered all the cash from their possession. One of the accused had worked in that bar earlier and was sacked by the bar owner some time ago.
According to API Ullhash Kadam, the investigation officer, the main accused, identified as Satyanarayan Okai, 23, who burgled the bar on the night of September 18 was arrested after the bar owner raised suspicion. “Okai had worked in the bar for a long time and he was aware where the money was kept after the bar shut at night,” said Kadam. Okai was picked up from Turbhe naka and, he confessed after interrogation that he had stolen Rs1.5 lakh cash.
The accused also claimed that he had done this because he was sacked by the bar owner.
The police also arrested one of the his associate, Hina Azim Shaikh, 19, with whom he had kept all the money. “After Okai revealed that he had kept the money with Hina, we arrested her as well and recovered the cash from her house in Turbhe,” said Kadam.
None of them have a criminal background, but they work at different bars. An official from the police station said that both the accused were in a live-in relationship and hatched the plan of robbery at the bar. They are natives of West Bengal.
They have been booked under sections 457, 545 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and were produced before the magistrate on Saturday.
