The IMD as well as private weather forecasting groups have said that temperatures are likely to rise from Sunday.

Rajesh Kapadia, who runs the popular weather blog Vagaries of Weather, said the rise in mercury is the result of northerly winds being replaced by easterly winds that bring in warm air. "From Monday, both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to see a rise. While day temperatures may rise to around 33 or 34 degrees, night temperatures too would rise to 19 or 20 degrees," he said.

Private weather forecasting agency Skymet, meanwhile, said, wind directions would adversely hit temperatures in the city. "Warm and humid southeasterly winds would again make a comeback over Mumbai, leading to a rise in temperatures. Mumbai will witness warm and dry weather during this time of the year, meaning afternoons will be be warm and sultry, although nights can still be cooler," it stated.
