Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state government is contemplating to bring a suitable legislation to prevent obscenity and vulgarity during the dance performances in the dance bars.

The sources in the home department informed that Fadnavis government, after coming into power, has already asked the department officials to prepare a stringent legislation which would stand in the Supreme Court in addition to serving the purpose of preventing obscenity as well as vulgarity in the dance bars.

After Supreme Court's decision came out in public domain, Fadnavis reacted on the same through a tweet and said that his government would approach Supreme Court with an alternative.

Fadnavis, in his tweet, said, "Government pleader in Supreme Court informed that the Honorable Supreme Court has accepted all the conditions imposed by government of Maharashtra on dance bars with few modifications. But the Supreme Court has disallowed the condition of live monitoring through CCTV and has asked to enforce surveillance at the entrance only."

Fadnavis, further in his tweet, added that state government can't permit obscenity it has seen in the past. An official informed that state government has already prepared a draft, which could be moved in the ensuing budget session or the monsoon session of the state assembly, after discussing the issue at the Cabinet level so that the ministers would be informed about the same.

"We have yet not received copy of the order. The government, meanwhile, is working on a legislation on dance bars. We believe it's obligatory on state to protect dignity of women," said Vijay Satbir Singh, principal secretary home department.

Sources from Chief Minister's Office informed that the legislation which government intends to bring has stringent measures and would define what a dance bar is. The official, on the condition of anonymity, informed that it would define a dance bar, put conditions specifying the number of tables, audience as well as dancers along with making proper precautionary measures mandatory to ensure that any untoward incident is prevented.
