MUMBAI
Though Thane Municipal corporation (TMC) believes that Thane city has abundant water supply, residents across Ghodbunder Road, from plush societies are facing water woes since long. They allege that assurance of authorities too have not worked till date and they have been suffering because of this for long.
Many societies from Hiranandani Estates, Kanchan Pushp Vijay Vilas and across Lok Upvan have been facing water problems since months. The residents at Hiranandani Estates have been facing problems since the past four months while other societies have been facing this issue since the past six months.
Residents allege that they can understand if water supply is irregular for a while but this has been persistent since long and want the authorities to realise it.
It was on February 16 that residents from Hiranandani Estates highlighted the issue at Mini Marathon and over 50 residents from Apollo Society including women, senior citizens and children, carried the placard saying 'we run for water'.
Residents from Hiranandani allege they are left at the mercy of water tankers and spend near about Rs 35- 40 thousand every month on calling these tankers. They even took the issue to the developers and urged them to take action, they replied it is TMC who should resolve the issue and take necessary action.
A resident from Hiranandani informed, "We have a letter from TMC saying if we are facing water problems then it is the developer who should solve the issue. We are confused as as both TMC and developer are passing the buck to each other while the issue is not being resolved."
Rajinder Bhatt, chairman of Apollo Society said, "Apollo is one of the oldest societies in the complex and we voluntarily implemented rainwater harvesting about five years ago. In fact, we also have a borewell for everyday water usage like gardening and car washing but we still wonder why we are devoid of our share of water."
Geeta Jadhav, a resident from Lok Upvan society alleged, "The water supplies have been irregular for months altogether and despite many complaints, the officials are not responding to the issue."
Shashank Pawar, a resident alleged, "We have been paying our taxes honestly but don't get apt facilities. We have been suffering from water problems for long but nothing has been done to resolve the issue apart from the false assurances by officials."
Corporator Naresh Manera said, "I have asked the officials to look into the matter and there is probability of choked pipes. Once the problem is identified the issue would be resolved."
