A division bench of justices Abhay Oka and Amjad Syed has asked the state to look for an alternative for parking vehicles for the next year. It has also directed authorities to follow noise pollution rules as Shivaji Park is a silence zone area.
The HC had restrained vehicle parking in Shivaji Park following a public interest litigation by Wecom Trust, an NGO that has been fighting to protect the Park from being used for commercial purposes. However, considering the large turnout on visarjan days, the state and BMC approach the HC every year seeking permission to allow use of Shivaji Park for parking during the festival.
