A 48-year-old Virar resident commited suicide by hanging himself in the study room of his residence on Thursday. The police have cited family dispute as reason behind the extreme step.

According to the police, Shankar Vatavkar, was a resident of Gopcharpada in Virar (E) and was found hanging. He was a builder by profession. Vatavkar has left behind a suicide note in which he blamed three of his relatives behind the extreme step. The police suspect that the relatives has traumatized him after which decided to end his life.

"Family dispute is the reason behind the suicide. We are taking the statements of the kins after which a formal complaint would be registered," said a police officer.

"We have found the suicide note and we are in process of registering the complaint against the persons mentioned in it," the officer added.

"A case under section 306 (abetement to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code would be registered against the suspects. We are investigating further," the officer said.
