[Video] Vasai cops caught on camera assaulting civilian in broad daylight

In a shocking revelation, a police officer on Monday was caught on video allegedly assaulting a citizen in the Vasai East area. The entire episode, which was recorded by a concerned citizen, shows the cop attacking the man in broad daylight and in the presence of two other traffic police officers.

Shot by Ramsagar Mishra, who then uploaded it on Facebook, the video captures an altercation between a rider who had been confronted by the cops for entering from the wrong side of the road. When the individual in question refused to furnish his licence, and further challenged the cops who were also allegedly parked on the wrong side of the road, the situation took a turn for the worse.

The police officer is seen raising his hand several times in the video that is over three minutes long. He is also seen asserting his authority as an officer of the police, reapeating the point over and again.

Attempts to get in touch with the authorities did not receive any response. However, Mishra has forwarded the video and images to Phalghar SP and is awaiting a reply, reports Rushlane.com. The report also states that Mishra too faced the brunt of cops' temper who confiscated his drivers licence.

The identities of the policemen have not been confirmed.

While the innocence of the rider may be questioned, there is a need for the authorities to clarify whether the use of violence in this situation was justified.
