VHP roots for separate law to construct Ram temple

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has said the parliament should pass a legislation to facilitate the construction of a magnificent temple of Lord Ram at Ayodhya.

VHP general secretary Vyankatesh Abdeo said, “We are not planning any agitation. We do not want violence. Even we want communal peace and harmony in the society. However, through silent campaigns, we are building up momentum to consolidate people in raising the demand for a separate law allowing the construction of a magnificent Ram temple. As far as we are concerned, there is no ambiguity about the Ram temple’s existence at Ayodhya.”

Abdeo said that in the past, when questions were raised about the existence of Somnath temple (Gujarat), the parliament unanimously passed a resolution for the construction of temple.

“The then president, Dr Rajendra Prasad, had inaugurated the temple. Despite differences, the Somnath temple issue was resolved, as top leadership at that time took a unanimous view to settle the dispute,” the VHP leader added.

The VHP and the BJP led the Ramjanmabhoomi agitation that culminated into the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. The incident had sparked communal riots across the country.

While insisting that verdict cannot go against the Ram temple, the VHP leader argued, “There are documentary evidences procured through satellite imaging substantiating the presence of temple pillars prior to 1528. It shows that the temple existed before it was pulled down by Moughals to build a mosque.”
