They would come to the city by air from Ghaziabad in UP, stay in three-star hotels, rob houses and fly back home.

The accused have been identified as Vikram Thakur, Ravi Sharan, Mukesh Jat and Shailendra Jat. All in their twenties, they are from educated and affluent families.

The investigators revealed that in order to sustain their extravagant lifestyle, they started indulging in the crime. They would come to Mumbai once in every month to rob. In Santa Cruz alone they have been involved in at least three burglaries and decamped with Rs5 lakh.

“We are trying to find out if the accused have robbed houses in other areas as well,” said a police officer.

The police are investigating if the accused have any local contacts who give them information about possible targets.

The arrested persons were involved in similar crimes in UP and were arrested by the police there a few days ago. The UP police then handed them over to the Santa Cruz police. Interrogation revealed their involvement in the crime here.
