The employee union of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will hold another meeting with the civic chief on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of seventh pay commission recommendations.

Last week, the civic administration had agreed to pay the arrears in five instalments. The amount of arrears varied from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh depending upon the grade. The BMC has around 1.35 lakh pensioners and 1.05 lakh employees. The civic body spends around Rs 12000 crore in pensions and salary of employees. The implementation of the pay commission recommendation will increase establishment costs. The establishment cost of the BMC is over 46 per cent of the total budget.
