According to NCB sources, they received information that a truck from J&K carrying hashish would arrive near Hotel Sagar at Chincholi Naka on Saturday afternoon.

Acting on the tip-off, NCB sleuths laid a trap at the said place and intercepted the truck (JK-02-9963), as soon as it arrived. “Nothing was found on searching the vehicle, when we grilled the duo, they confessed that packets containing hashish were hidden in a cavity under the driver’s seat,” said an NCB official, requesting anonymity.

He added that on opening the cavity, the NCB officials found around 23 packets containing 62kg of hashish.

“We suspect that the said consignment was to be delivered in Mumbai. We are investigating as to from where the duo had sourced the contraband and who was it to receive it. Also whether they had ferried such consignment in the city in the past is also being investigated,” said the official.

The duo were booked under Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act and have been remanded to police custody till March 10 by a local court, sources said.
