A special Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act court held two men guilty on Wednesday of sexually assaulting infants in two separate cases and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

The convicts both personally knew their young victims, whose parents had no clue that their wards were
being sexually assailed.

In the first case, a complaint was filed in 2015 at Vakola police station against the victim’s uncle, who stands convicted of sodomising him.

According to the prosecution, the victim, who was a year old, lived with his grandfather and mother after his father passed away. On the day of the incident, the convict took the child to a relative’s place against the mother’s consent and abused him in a locked room. When the mother reached the relative’s place in search of her son, she could hear him crying from inside the locked room. She later found that her son was bleeding. Doctors confirmed he was sodomised.

In the second case, the culprit, a resident of Parksite area in Vikhroli, raped a two--year-old girl in 2016.

Special public prosecutor Usha Jadhav said, “He was the child’s neighbour and was knew her from her birth. On August 8, 2016, the mother was feeding dinner to the child outside their house and went in to get more food but when she got back, she could not find her. She informed her husband who approached the police. It was later found that the accused had taken the child to a jungle and had raped her. It was later revealed that he had been sexually assaulting the child since she was born.”
