Two men who raped and murdered minors in separate incidents were sentenced to death by a Then court on Friday.

In the older of the two cases, Ramkiran Gaud, 33, from Kavesar in Thane raped a three-year-old girl who was playing outside her house on September 30, 2013. After sexually assaulting her, he murdered her and dumped the body in a ditch in a field nearby. The local cops arrested Gaud on October 3, 2013 and a charge sheet was filed against him in Thane sessions court. Based on the evidence, Thane sessions court judge S A Sinha sentenced him to death.

The second crime took place on April 1 last year, when a four-year-old girl from Thane's Bhiwandi went out to a playground in her neighbouhood around 3 pm and did not get back home. Her parents lodged a police complaint with the Bhoiwada police in Bhiwandi the next day. On April 4, the child's body was found in the brushwood in the area.

The cops traced the culprit, 20-year-old loom worker named Mohammed Abeed Ajmir, who had fled to Bihar. A police team left for the norther state and brought him back to Bhiwandi. Based on the statements given by the witnesses and village heads, the court sentenced Ajmir on Friday to be hanged to death.
