An elderly woman used pesticide by mistake for preparing tea and paid by losing the lives of two of her grandchildren. Komal Dhavle (58) was making tea for the family at her home at Takli Haji village in Shirur taluka, 45 km from Pune, on Saturday evening. Since there was a power cut, Komal mistook the pesticide for tea granules and added it to the water.The concoction was offered to her son, Santosh Dhavle, granddaughter Pranjal (5), grandson Sangram (7) and mother-in-law Shantabai (78). Later in the night, the four complained of uneasiness and began vomiting. While being taken to a private hospital, Pranjal died, and Sangram passed away on Sunday morning. Santosh and Shantabai are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. The accidental deaths have been registered with the Shirur police station.According to the police, the Dhavle family has a sugarcane farm and purchased the pesticides a few days ago.
