Acting on a tipoff, the anti robbery and dacoity (ARD) cell of Mumbai crime branch on Friday arrested two accused with a firearm and live cartridges from Bhandup.

Those arrested were wanted in connection of an armed dacoity carried out in Rajasthan at a jeweller's house in the month of December last year. According to the ARD officials, the two accused have been identified as Devraj Thakur (38) and Kishansingh Thakur (30) both residents of Titwala and Bhandup respectively.

As per the information, the accused were likely to assemble near Dreams Mall in Bhandup on Friday. Information was also received that the arrested accused would be carrying a firearm along with them.

"Based on the information we laid a trap and when the two arrived at the spot we arrested them. On searching them we recovered a pistol and four live cartridges," said an officer.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the two were wanted in an armed dacotiy case at Rajasmand district in Rajasthan. "The accused during questioning revealed that on December 26, 2015 they along with four others had carried out an armed dacoity at a jeweller's house who owns a business in Mumbai," said an officer.

He added: "The accused told us that they used the firearm and assaulted the relatives of the jeweller with a chopper and stole items worth Rs25 lakh, including cash and jewellery."
