Just a day after the Mumbai Police announced that areas near the Taj Hotel and Gateway of India would be made a high-security zone with deployment of around 1,000 policemen for security during Christmas and New Year, two persons were held with fire arms in preparation to execute a dacoity.
Officials of the Colaba police station had received information that some unidentified people are going to execute a dacoity in South Mumbai, and the suspects would be meeting somewhere near Jehangir Art Gallery on Thursday morning.
Acting on the information, a trap was laid in the locality and several policemen in plain clothes were deployed in the area to keep a watch.
At around 11am five such suspects gathered at the spot, when a police team tried to nab them. The five tried to flee but two of them were nabbed while three others, taking advantage of heavy crowd at that hour of the day, escaped.
