Two held in Vasai for stealing memory cards worth Rs7.95 lakh

Two people employed with a courier company were recently arrested by the Vasai GRP (Government Railway police) for stealing a consignment of memory cards worth Rs7.95 lakh. The accused have been identified as Ajay Pandey, 20, and his accomplice, Vinod Pandey, 21.

According to the GRP, the complainant, Pramod Patel, who owns a courier service, filed a complaint accusing two of his employees.

The accused duo had been working at the company for six years and hence the owner trusted them. But on December 11, the duo took the mobile memory cards of 1GB, 4GB and 8GB that was worth Rs 7.95 lakh from the Vasai godown for delivery. “They went to Vasai railway station to board the train for delivery of the consignment. But later they claimed that four people snatched the parcels and fled,” said Patel. Patel then filed a complaint with the Vasai GRP.

“Investigations revealed that the duo and three other members stole the memory cards. One of their friends took a train to Uttar Pradesh and the other too got out of Mumbai the next day,” said officer Pathan of the Vasai GRP.

“Using their mobile records, police traced them to Uttar Pradesh and arrested them from Haraiya, Basti district. They sold goods in a local market but we recovered goods worth Rs6.18 lakh,” said police inspector K Gaikwad of the Vasai GRP.

“We have information about the other accused but they are in Nepal at their relative’s house. We are keeping tabs on them and will arrest them when they return,” said an officer.
