The Sahakarnagar police on Thursday arrested two suspects from Kolhapur for allegedly extorting money from a couple by threatening to kidnap their son.
The Sahakarnagar police on Thursday arrested two suspects from Kolhapur for allegedly extorting money from a couple by threatening to kidnap their son.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Chandrakant Balasaheb Koshti (36) and Santosh Nilappa Jotavar (20). Another suspect, Mahananda Chandrakant Koshti (36), is on the run.
A complaint in this regard was filed by Ashok Babanrao Lokhande (39) of Dhankavdi.
According to the police, Koshti lived near the complainant’s house. In May 2009, he got acquainted with Lokhande’s wife Anita and managed to get all the details of bank accounts of her husband and father.
Later, the suspects started threatening the couple to abduct their son, if they do not pay them.
The suspects also forced the couple to withdraw their fixed deposits and kept transferring the amount in their own accounts from time to time.
After being produced before a magistrate’s court, Koshti and Jotavar were remanded in police custody till December 26.
