Tulsi lake near Mumbai overflows, good rain in catchment areas
According to the data available with the BMC, the six lakes have 4,44,687 million litres of water as of now, compared to 2,09,403 million litres last year during the same period.
In some good news for Mumbaikars, the heavy rain in the catchment area have led to Tulsi Lake overflowing this evening."Tulsi, a lake supplying potable water to Mumbai, has started overflowing from today 5 pm. The catchment areas of the Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vihar, Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa lakes too are having a good rainfall for four-five days," an official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's hydraulic department said.Last year, Tulsi lake had started overflowing on July 27.According to the data available with the BMC, the six lakes have 4,44,687 million litres of water as of now, compared to 2,09,403 million litres last year during the same period.For the city to sail smoothly through the non-monsoon months, these six lakes need to have a collective water stock of 13 lakh million litres.
