Three persons, including two telemarketing officials, were arrested by Dongri police on Monday for allegedly duping customers of a reputed insurance company by assuring them huge bonuses.

The arrested trio has been identified as Amit Narottam Ray, 28, Tejbahadur Saheb Singh, 32, and Parvez Tajuddhin Mukadam, 21.

According to the police, from January 8 till date, the accused persons conspired to dupe the customers, by making bogus promises of bonuses to the tune of lakhs of rupees on their previous policies.

"One of the customers and complainant Roshan Ali Shaikh, 39, a resident of Dongri Cross Lane, was lured by the offer, and he deposited Rs21.14 lakh in the different bank accounts of the accused persons," said an officer from Dongri police station.

The suspects then dropped off the radar, after which Shaikh lodged a police complaint against them. The trio has been booked under sections 420 (cheating) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
