With an aim to save the environment, these transgenders have started spreading awareness among their community and will be adopting one tree per person. Speaking about the help from the transgender community, Subhajit Mukherjee, founder of Lets Green initiative to adopt the dying trees due to Metro work, said, “A few days ago at the Midh Chowki signal four transgenders came to help us in digging the plants out from the dividers and also adopted a few. The transgender community on Link Road has also joined the initiative along with us.”

Just like these transgenders, another group of transgender has been a part of the adopt a plant initiative. Speaking about when they started to participate in the initiative and how are they spreading awareness in the community, Sameera Kale, a Guru in the community and resident of Vitthalwadi, said, “I agreed to contribute to the initiative as it is a good way to save our environment. We are not only adopting trees but are also making others in the community aware about this. When I go to my village in Nashik, I have been talking about the initiative to our community there. During our functions, we distribute saplings to the guest rather than giving flowers.”
