A 51-year-old traffic constable was hit by a car in a no entry zone in Wadala on Saturday evening. Pratap Shingote, posted with the Wadala traffic division, has been hospitalised with a head injury and abrasions on his left hand.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 5.20 pm near Puja junction in Wadala (E). "The road between Ganesh Nagar and Hume Pipe Road is off limits for vehicles. Shingote was stationed there. While redirecting traffic, he noticed a car trying to enter the no entry zone and signaled the driver against entering it. The driver instead sped and dashed against Shingote," said an officer from Wadala police station.
Another traffic constable who witnessed the incident noted the car registration number. Meanwhile, Shingote was rushed to hospital. "While the driver escaped, his car was found abandoned a few metres from the spot. We have seized the car and are trying to find out who was driving it through the vehicle registration number," the officer said.
A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
