Torso, skull found in Mumbai not of the same person: Report

The DNA sample of a torso found at Sandhurst Road in May did not match with that of a skull found stuck to a train in Bhusaval a few days later.

The Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory recently submitted its report in the case to the Dongri police.

The DNA sample report has come negative which means that of the two body parts did not belong to the same person. This has brought the case to a near dead end.

Also the DNA samples taken of four missing persons’ parents, who had approached the Dongri police, have neither matched the torso nor the skull. The police are also trying to find if there is any similarity between this case and the case in which a woman’s torso was found near Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a police team had gone to Madhya Pradesh as they suspected that the torso could be of a victim, who was employed with the Central Railway.

Hemant Bavdhankar, police inspector of Dongri police station said: “We had found a book which contained the details of a meeting held by the railway union members of Central Railway. The meeting was held in 1996 in Patni in Madhya Pradesh. Thinking that he could be a railway employee, a team went there but nobody was found to be missing. We have informed the police stations in MP to inform us if they get any lead in the case.”

Bavdhankar said that they have again sent an interstate wireless message to all the police stations to alert them if they have reports of any missing person. The only way to detect this case is to first identify the victim which can be done only if the DNA samples match with that of parents who approach the police.

“It is a crime committed in cold blood and the accused have made sure that the persom does not get identified,” the officer added.The Dongri police have registered a murder case against unidentified accused.

Linking the cases
In May, railway workers found the decomposed torso of a man at Sandhurst Road railway yard.

Two weeks after the torso was found, a skull was found stuck near the wheels of an outstation train in Bhusawal.

Since the body parts were found days apart, the police suspected them to be of the same person.

It was a long wait for the police to get the forensic lab report. But, after the report came negative, the police will have a difficult task at hand to crack the cases
