Several ALMs across Mumbai are in the process of meeting their elected representatives. Residents of Chembur want to meet the corporators before the new House begins. “This time there is lot of time before the new House starts. They will get busy once the new corporators take charge. We will organise ‘Meet your corporators’ event for Chembur (both M/East and M/West),” said Rajkumar Sharma of ALMANAC.

The prominent issues they intend to take up with the corporators are pollution, water contamination and BEST routes. “Some of the corporators are old. They are aware of the problems in the area,” said Indrani Malkani, trustee V Citizens Action Network.

On the western suburbs, residents will have a meeting to decide when to meet the corporators and then chalk out a strategy of follow-up meetings. “We have our own meeting today. The idea is to have a plan that they meet us every month or so. For that we need to have our plan in place. We intend to take up the civic laws that they flout. One of the violations is banners that are put up all over the place,” said Willie Shirsat, member of Borivli-Dahisar Jagrut Nagrik Manch.

Residents also want the corporators to agree to a charter of demands.

“We will ask the corporators to pledge for the same,” said Ashok Kanwar, chairperson of Cuffe Parade Residents Association.
